Beacon Hospital has announced that it is the first centre in Ireland to offer Balloon Dilatation Technology for the treatment of symptoms caused by Recurrent/Chronic Sinusitis or Eustachian Tube Dysfunction.
These procedures do not require any incisions, and can be carried out under either local or general anaesthetic. With Balloon Sinuplasty, the recovery and down-time from work are apparently significantly shorter when compared to conventional sinus surgery and symptom relief has been shown to be rapid and sustained. Balloon Eustachian Tuboplasty is an alternative to traditional treatments for “popping” in the ears, muffled or decreased hearing, tinnitus and discomfort, particularly when flying and normal activities can be resumed after a short 24 hours.
These procedures, which are being offered by Ms Deirdre Fitzgerald, Consultant Ear, Nose, Throat & Facial Plastic Surgeon at Beacon Hospital having previously used them extensively while working in London, are also safe to use on children.
Commenting on the new treatments, Ms Deirdre Fitzgerald said:“I am delighted to bring these procedures to Ireland and to Beacon Hospital, which is the only clinic offering them in the country. Both procedures are game changers in the area as they are minimally invasive, and patients can return to normal activities very quickly”.
