R&D Engineer 

Specific Duties

  • Provide packaging design and development support to an EMEA site, to include:
  • Establishing compliant packaging Design History Files and associated documentation for current and NPI Design Control products and setting them up in the company’s documentation management system. 
  • Establishing packaging Risk Management files for current products.
  • Providing packaging engineering support to the site’s Complaint Handling activities.
  • Providing general packaging design and development support to the site. 

General Duties

Participate in and lead multiple cross-site, cross-function packaging related projects and activities.

  • Participate in the design and development of packaging solutions for legacy and NPI products.
  • Participate in the Galway Packaging Test Lab testing activities, equipment validation and packaging test lab support and general development.
  • Liaise with vendors on packaging components and packaging issues.
  • Build Quality into all aspects of work by complying with all internal and external requirements and regulations.
  • Participate in the integration of the EMEA ESCE team into the Galway site QMS.

Expected Areas of Competence  

  • Understanding of Packaging design requirements and processes within a regulated industry is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects & activities, deliver results and meet deadlines is essential.
  • Good technical capabilities.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal and (written and verbal) communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to effectively work across sites and with stakeholders and customers is essential. 
  • Good project management skills.
  • Good understanding of the relevance and importance of quality and regulatory compliance.

Education/ Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree / HETEC Level 8 qualified in Packaging Engineering, Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Medical Device or other regulated industry.

Travel Requirements 

  • Travel will vary with priorities and projects, averaging at about 25%.
