Helsinn Birex Pharmaceuticals (HBP) is the Global Supply Chain centre within the Helsinn Group with responsibility for commercial products and products in development and awaiting launch. In addition to its’ own pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging operations, HBP utilises the services of Contract Manufacturing Organisations (CMO’s) as an integral part of its strategic mandate to provide high quality, cost efficient pharmaceutical products to Helsinn’s global network of partners, primarily for steriles manufacturing. Currently Helsinn have approx. 12 external manufacturing sites across Europe, the US and Japan.

Reporting to the Director, Supply Chain, the primary purpose of Planner/Buyer is to effectively co-ordinate planning and on time delivery of all Helsinn externally manufactured products to ensure delivery exceeds 97% at all times.  This role is based on Site full time for an initial period and then will move to a Hybrid model (2 days WFH per week).

The role involves but is not limited to the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Forecast, plan, schedule and purchase externally manufactured products from CMO’s in line with sales demand.
  • Co-ordinate transportation of materials and externally manufactured products as required.
  • Communicate with other stakeholders (Warehouse, Quality, Production etc.) regarding material availability, deliveries and schedules.
  • Working with the Supply Chain Director & Commercial Group to issue annual forecasts to the external manufacturers and updating as required along with inputting into the relevant 5-year plan.
  • Raising all PO’s associated with CMO orders & supply of API’s
  • Ensuring annual schedules for meetings with CMO’s (minimum monthly) are in place and issued for each year.

The Person

The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge / skills and attributes: 

  • 3 years plus Supply Chain relevant experience preferably in a Bio/Pharmaceutical or Medical Device company but applicants from all industries with relevant SC experience will be considered
  • Applicants may also be considered from those with good steriles manufacturing experiencing looking to establish a career in Supply Chain
  • Experience of ERP systems essential
  • An ability to work on their own whilst influencing internal teams to ensure desired outcomes in a challenging fast moving work environment
  • A minimum of a third level degree (Level 8) preferably in a Life Science or Supply Chain Discipline
  • Excellent communication, influencing and project management skills are essential as is the ability to work effectively internally & externally as a member of a team.
  • Excellent understanding of ERP systems, Microsoft Office & Tableau. 
  • Previous experience dealing with and managing multinational Contract / Third Party Manufacturers is essential.
