Location: Dublin (Hybrid – 3 days collaborating in the office and 2 days home)

The role:

We have a dedicated Global Data Protection legal team made up of data protection lawyers and privacy professionals. The team supports the business and its affiliates by providing advice on data protection matters, monitoring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, training the ICON community, maintaining documentation related to data processing and acting as the contact point on data privacy matters.

The privacy team supports all of ICON’s businesses across the globe from our core research and monitoring businesses, laboratories, technology teams to our research clinics. The privacy issues we support directly impact all parties across the clinical research eco system from big pharma to biotechs, research physicians to the study subjects and patients.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Privacy Business Partner to ICON’s global medical research site businesses- Accellacare and Early Development Services. These businesses involve medical institutions globally and involved in recruiting and treating patients enrolled in clinical trials.
  • Advising on relevant laws, national guidelines, codes and best practices in relation to data protection.
  • Monitoring compliance with policy and procedures as required
  • Undertaking and advising on privacy impact assessments on new services, technology and processes with the assistance of ICON QA, IT Security, Clinical Operations and/or Internal Audit e.g. new technologies, applications and businesses.
  • Advising on international transfers of personal data.
  • Helping build and manage the Global ICON Privacy Program e.g. designing, implementing and adopting procedures, privacy tools and privacy strategy development.
  • Advising ICON entities including staff on their obligations in relation to regulatory obligations and monitoring compliance with regulations.
  • Advising on and drafting data protection contractual provisions in agreements with clients, vendors and sites as well as on terms and conditions for use of ICON products and services.
  • Preparing and delivering training to staff.
  • Advising in relation to data/security incidents/breaches and management of both clinical data (ICON as data processor) and other data where ICON acts as data controller.
  • Advising on specific data protection aspects of ICON corporate and commercial initiatives including vendor selection.
  • Assist in responding to data protection breaches and incidents
  • Staying current with global privacy laws and practices.
  • Maintaining records of processing activities.
  • Act as a point of contact for supervisory and regulatory authorities on issues related to the processing of personal data.

We are looking for:

Newly qualified to 3 year PQE with a genuine interest in building a legal career in Privacy and Data Protection are invited to apply.

  • For interested candidates with 3+ years PQE and extensive Data Protection/Privacy experience we may consider hiring for this role at Sr. Legal Counsel level.
  • A keen interest in working in a privacy role in our industry.
  • A comprehensive grasp of the EU General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Principles.
  • Ability to independently evaluate complex issues and utilize judgment to sort through diverse opinions to achieve consensus.
  • Proven team player with demonstrated consultation skills.
